The "Girls" of Today
by Terri Price Bloomgarden and Friends

xxxxJB to the girls was more than a stern look from Mrs. Ebbits or a check of the length of our dresses and the height of our teased hair from Mrs. Nehr. It was also a time of changing hormones and an abundance of laughter and tears - sometimes within minutes of each other. The ups and downs of our emotions were on the same roller coaster as were the comings and goings of our friendships. A look from a boy could be the beginning of a relationship or generally the dreaming of one, which was normally the more fulfilling. The waiting for that special call or an invitation to a party, was the most painful, exciting, wishful time of our lives.

xxxxThe only constant was the one girlfriend (although that could also change from hour to hour) who held her breath with you, shared your excitement over little victories and listened to your hurts. She was the one that you called when you got home even though you had just seen her at school, passed notes to her in class and maybe shared the bus ride home. She had so much understanding that you really did not need to explain to her how you felt for the next 2 hours that you spent talking on the phone.

xxxxEven with the switching of best friends, so many of us formed strong ties to a large group of girls. Those girls are the women we are today. During the past decades some of us have stayed in contact with old friends. In the last few years a number of us have been getting together again. These are women who were not all best friends but just friends from JB & Fairfax. The most startling thing to all of us was that from the first time the dozen or so of us met, we all re-bonded.

xxxxAfter the initial "What have you been doing?" we have stayed together in a friendship of today. The fun and comfort of being with this group became an important part of our reunion committee. With egos out the door, we worked together, made many decisions and we are still just as close today. We are sometimes surprised when we look around the growing table of friends and realize our mutual bond of 40 years plus is a feeling not many people will experience in life.

xxxxWe welcome anyone who wants to join us, just bring good memories and a sense of humor.
