      Days of New Bamboo

This time of year, when the new bamboo pushes up out of the earth like thrusting spears, is particularly exciting. Every time you look there are new sprouts. Some are growing in the "wrong" place, which is to say where I want something else to grow. I cut them off or kick them over. The other day I cut a little shoot off, peeled off the outer layers and ate the shoot. It was good. I need to remember to grab some for my next stir fry.
