Seattle Public Library

"...the new Seattle Central Library, designed by Koolhaas and his Office for Metropolitan Architecture, is not only a work of immense intellectual power, it is visually stunning. Its contorted cage-like exterior is a powerful commentary on the colliding forces - economic, political and otherwise - that shape contemporary society. It is a truly original work." - Nicolai Ouroussoff, Los Angeles Times , May 21, 2004

West Seattle

This was the first time I've been to this part of town. Check out the views! In a sense (remember, people were already living here), this is where the City of Seattle started. Plaques and signs tell of those early days.

Floating Volcanoes
The plane out of Seattle was late and full. I had a middle seat, but through the window I could see the Cascades.

It was late afternoon, not very clear; the hazy blue sky on top, the hazy blue mountains below. And here and there a Cascade Peak - Raineer, Hood, St. Helens, Adams...all the way down to Shasta and Lassen.

White peaks floating on a blue sea like jellyfish, tentacles trailing.
