Dear
Friends and Family, It is amazing how a small swipe of a surgical scalpel turned my life. Of course, those who have known me forever recognize that I have always been dizzy and this state is nothing new. I am completely cancer free and this note is to encourage all of you - without symptoms, without family history as I am - to take the colon test so we can leap into old old age together. It is easy to put aside material desires when your belly is full and the roof doesn’t leak . Yet, I don’t believe that I will ever choose to completely let my Jewish Princess status go . . . . . however, I have learned much in 55 years about living from one’s heart and soul . And it is the memories of friendship and love - camping on a beach, dancing all night, weeping and laughing - that count. We all know this - I just wanted to say thank you. Anna is 14 and moving on to high school next fall. She is completing a Middle Years International Baccalaureate Program and all her talents in art, writing and human understanding continue to grow. She has become a beautiful gazelle-like young woman. Noah, at 20, is on his own, employed as a teacher and working full time on a political degree at the Uof M. His achievements are all superior - as a student, as a man and as a son. He is tall and thin and has my Dad’s curly hair. I send him bags of food - like a good Jewish mother - when ever he visits. Raising my children alone has been my soul/sole occupation. The hardest occupation for any woman. But I have also evolved work I love - designing and working a high school program to help emotionally disturbed teens (an appropriate way for me to payback society, don‘t you think?). I believe completely in the Jewish concept of co-creating the world with G*d and as a mother, a teacher, a therapist, a friend and a lover - this has always been my goal. And then there is Jim. For the last 18months G*d has granted my children and I the wonderful love and companionship of James Kyle. Once a Baptist minister, a teacher, a father, a husband to a loved wife, a guide for those in pain - and now ultimately one-who-walks-beside. Our joyful union is a G*d gift. And, of course, there is you. Friends I rarely see or speak to, family that feel like dusty memories, still you are all loved in my heart and ,truly, I think of you often .. .. .. Barby |

| Hi,Peter You might be suprised by this email from unfamiliar person. My name is Junya Nishida, 31 years old Japanese male, living in Sydney, Australia. During trying to find my old friend's, who is SkyWhitehead, contact detail on the net, I found JB class room web page and it says his father, Jay whitehead, has passed... In our university days, Sky told me his father was an artist and he named his son "Sky" after his artistic image of beautiful vast panorama of sky. So I'm sure the SKY WHITEHEAD is the one I'm trying to find. It is surprise to me to know that his father has past away. These couple of years, we haven't contact each other and now I don't have his current contact detail. So I did not know the fact. It would be appreciated if you tell me his email address or other contact detail if you have those information. Or it would be enough to transfer this email to Sky. For clarification who I am, here is our detail; We were in Japanese language an culture dept. in University Tsukuba in 1992. I was one of the tuters for foreign exchange students. I was a Jack's tuter, but Sky was living next door to Jack's room and we had good friendship at that time. Thanks and regards... |

Friend, I found your website on Google.com. I don't know if there is any hope...but I've been searching for 20 years to locate my Science Teacher at Burrough Jr. High. I graduated in 1959. His name was Chester A. Harris (I think it was an "A"). If it were not for my one course in general science in 1958, I think I would be a total dud in this field. I never took another science class, but because of one semester with him, I can walk tall with the scholars I now blend in with. I never had a chance to thank him as a child. But I sure would like to as an adult. Is there any way to find out if he is still living? Or where he might be now? Anything would be helpful. Cordially, Sandra Pritikin Collingwood Burroughs Grad of 1959 (I loved Burroughs!! Went on to Fairfax & UCLA) |

peter i'm not an alum -- but we have friends in common, and i believe we were introduced once or twice by someone like Sarno or Marion Wolf. my name is Ed Rumelt. Carl Lieberman gave me this lead -- I'm trying to get in touch with David Sugarman, JB alum, who was my best friend in 11th-12th grade at Fairfax and for some years afterwards: we were Venice hippie dudes together. The page that Carl mentioned, /reunion, is perhaps no longer up. I wouldn't be surprised if David Sugarman was not one of the hundreds of folks who did respond to your reunion call. If you do have anything on him, however, it would be tremendously appreciated, and your generousity will undoubtedly result in much good karma. Regards, Ed Rumelt cel (310) 490-7241 |

my search for information about L.A. landmarks from my past, I found your
webpage and have enjoyed the memories. I lived on the 300 block of Alfred St. and Beverly Blvd. and spent many Sundays with my father at Beverly Park and Ponyland. I don't remember Tail O' the Pup becoming Pink"s. But I do remember when the Historical Landmark was moved to a residential street to blocks north. We used to attend the Church of Religious Science on San Vincente and Fourth St. and would have breakfast at Gale's Coffee Shop next to Rexall. Which then was part of Dart Square. Remember the Dart car? I also went with my Mom, to the Home Silk Shop (on La Cienga) for fabrics and patterns. Does anyone remember the Key maker in a tiny building on the south side of Smokey Joe's, next to the oil derrick. What has happened to the Pan Pacific Theater. Last I saw, it was the location of the Olivia Newton-John movie, Xanadu. Memories of the other side streets include the Ralph's Grocery store that was on the street behind Mordigan Nursery and we used to go to the B & L Bakery and the Beauty Supply on 3rd Street across from Ralph's. La Cienaga Blvd. was restaurant row and had the great classic restaurants. Lawry's Steakhouse, The Mediteranian, Bob Burns. Hey, even the classical Fatburger on La Cienaga and Clifton Way. Also, if you get to watch the 1976 movie "Thank God it's Friday", it is filmed at the Odessy on La Cienaga and the Hertz Rent-A-Car and some of the old stores can be seen in the background. I was at Beverly Park one day when Ralph Story was filming his TV show and I remember riding on the helicopter ride that circled high in the air, as they filmed children enjoying the rides. I 've discovered his programs are accessible through the UCLA Film and Television Archive; television programs preserved 1988 - 2000. The Ralph Story Collection: 104 two-inch videotapes of "RALPH STORY'S - LOS ANGELES" (1964-1970), it was the highest-rated and most fondly remembered local series in Los Angeles television history. http://www.cinema.ucla.edu/collections/collectionsf.html. Powell Library (310) 206-5388 I also found that the Los Angeles Library (www.lapl.org) has Microfilm of these Historical properties through archived records of Sanborn Insurance at http://databases.lapl.org/ I am looking for photos of the area before1970. I would appreciate anyone that can refer me to resources for info and photos. Thanks |

LizGill I sit here with tears in my eyes as I read about the pony ride that I and my brothers worked at for a few years. Liz My brother called me about your site and I cannot thank you enough for the memories being relived that the beverly center (atrocity) has consumed. I lived on the 300 block of Alfred St. that was only one block from Beverly and La Cienega, which is where I spent the first fifteen years of LIFE, and would love to return home (I am stuck in miserable texas) but many things prevent my return that at this time. Long story short, thanks for making ponyland, smoky joe's, kiddieland, tail of the pup, standard shoes, Rexall, the key shop,Gazzaries, and all the others come back to comfort me and rekindle a childhood that died many years ago. P.S. Do you have any idea where one might find photos of these places as I have searched the net with no luck? Sincerely Gary Sachs |

| Hi
Peter, Thanks for keeping everything together. Even though I live in San Diego, I would like to be on your mailing list. Who knows, one day I may drive up for one of your events. What about an event in San Diego? Best wishes to you for the New Year. Glenn Erso |

LizGill You don't know how long I have searched for sentiment such as this. Although my lament travels a little further east (to downtown Los Angeles), you are a girl after my own heart. I'm from the late 50's to death of downtown L.A. as we knew it...pre-swap meet. I long for Bullock's Dept. Store, May Co., "J.W. Robinson's", Mandel's Shoes and everything in-between and I wonder of difficult or frustrating it would be to get it all back. It just had it's own class about it. I went into the old May Co. recently and i'm still on medication. Any sympathizers? I'd love to hear from you. (I don't think the idea is too far fetched, do you? |

| Hello
Peter: My name is Leonard Scheid. I thoroughly enjoyed the JB reunion website and needless to say, it has brought back many fond memories for me. I also attended JB however I am a graduate of Summer 63. Prior to JB I attended Wilshire Crest Elementary, then after JB went on to L.A. High. I still have my BURR S'62 and viewing your website inspired me to dig it up and browse the many photos and memories. I also have several issues of the FAR and NEAR, one of which covers the retirements of Mr. Jones. If you are interested, I would be happy to scan the photos and articles for your website although I would imagine some in your group would still have the same publications. I have scanned and attached page 6 from the S'62 Burr depicting A9 activities. Are the classmates you have listed on your site limited to the Class of 62 or have you also listed former classmates from other classes as well? Thank you again for the work you have placed in this site. Leonard Scheid JB Class of S'63 |
